Hey everyone welcome back to Tech Talk with a Millennial. this Friday being Valentine’s Day I feel it’s only fitting we talk about where tech mingles with the dating scene. Online dating is not relatively new thing, believe it or not the first online dating site was made in 1995 making the practice a 1/4 of a century old. With that in mind 25 years is definitely more than enough time to build up stats for blogs like me to over analyze. Keep in mind all these stats are based on the Canadian demographic and is provided by an article written eharmony.com, there will be a link at the bottom if you would like to read further.
Ok the one thing I want to talk about most when it comes to online dating is it’s popularity. Online dating used to be very stigmatized due to it requiring relatively no physical interaction with other people. Nowadays however this is no longer the case. According to eharmony.com, 36% of Canadians use a form of online dating. Which doing the math with Canada’s population being over 37 million means that a little over 13 million people across Canada are trying to find a partner digitally.
Another thing I want to talk about is how online dating competes with old fashioned meeting someone in public. With all the apps out in the world such as Tinder and Bumble it’s not surprising to learn that relationships starting from the online platform are becoming more popular. According to eharmony.com about a fifth of Canada’s committed couples started digitally. Which I have no doubts is only going to become a bigger and bigger number as time passes.
Well that’s it from me this week thank you very much for reading my block this week. All links for my material will be provided bellow.
